Background
Parking space Dr Hennie Palm of Giant Within had always wanted to maximise space on the front vicinity of the property for his patience.
Close boundary line , sloped , existing, loffelstein, big boulders and the existing dwelling being close to the slope. So one of the first challenges here would be to take comprehensive house protection measures to avoid damage
The big problem frustrating has been space not only for parking but also for turning vehicle. Appointment with doctor and visitors would be scheduled proportionately with available parking space. In some instances visitors would park outside and walk down the 130m long driveway.
Dr Hennie Palm called over 10 Durban contractors to advise on most practically and efficient solution .Dson Industries were subsequently contacted by Dr Hennie Palm to provide practical and technical input on the desired solution.
Dson Industries were able provide more detailed design drawings and following subsequent site visits drew up a final design and method statement to address the construction problems including : Bulk Excavation and Removal of the excavated insitu material and how this would be more efficiently be managed.
Project Background
Having mentioned the Dson Industries installation capabilities during an early meeting, we were subsequently asked to put forward a ‘whole package’ proposal that would include the Excavations ,supply of materials and installation of the Dry stack Segmental Retaining wall structure.
The projected start date was delayed pending the completion of the approvals process, d as a result the works would need to be completed more quickly than originally envisaged.
The construction team would need to work efficiently in order to complete the project as soon as was practicably possible.

Challenges
Steep and Long Driveway
Two Narrow Gates: Machinery Inaccessible
Our initial idea was to export excavated material to a closest Landfill site and that was Marianhill Durban Solid Waste(DSW). It was technically challenging as tipper trucks could not enter through gate and the whole to process to load trucks ballooning up the cost.
That was a vast land in the rear yard. The problem was to cut through a narrow space between property and the boundary fence. Dson Industries experienced in Durban’s typographic were to advise the owner . Dr Henn welcomed the idea and authorised Dson Industries to go ahead. This resulted in 9% cost saving. The savings were utilised on additional materials to retaining the extended section of cut slope.
